Joel is a director, screenwriter, and an acclaimed feature film editor for the last twenty five years. Included in the 32 films that he has edited is an ongoing collaboration with award-winning writer and director Neil LaBute, that includes such films as In the Company of Men, Your Friends and Neighbors, Bash, Nurse Betty, The Shape of Things, Wicker Man, Lakeview Terrace, One Velvet Morning and Dirty Weekend. Additionally, he has continued to edit features, documentaries and television. Most recently he edited ten episodes of Billy and Billie for LaBute, three seasons of Netflix’s Longmire and the third season of Showtime’s Billions.

Plotch also directed the award winning short film, Heavy Put-Away, which was adapted from a Terry Southern short story (Easy Rider, Dr. Strangelove) starring Gretchen Mol, Dallas Roberts and Mark Boone Jr. Plotch’s first full-length feature script, Ocean Beach, was on The Black List ’08. Subsequently he has written three more scripts, Sullivan Street, Ghost Dance, and Night Gardening where he collaborated with his wife, Mimi McCracken.
